Dr Teh Chee Ghee, a Malaysian, aged 57, holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Credit Management, Master of Business Administration degree and an Honours Degree in Accounting from University of Malaya. He is an ex-Council Member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants a fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, a member of the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.
He is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Engtex Group Berhad (“Engtex”), and also serve as the Independent Non-Executive Chairman of Orgabio Holdings Berhad (since March 2021) and the Independent Non-Executive Director of ACO Group Berhad (since August 2019) and LGMS Berhad (since September 2021). He previously sat on the Board of Fiamma Holdings Berhad, Engtex Sdn Berhad, Parlo Berhad (formerly known as Cybertowers Berhad) and K.Seng Seng Corporation Berhad.
He started his career as an Associate Consultant with AA-HRM Sdn Bhd, the consulting arm of Arthur Andersen & Co. (a firm under Hanafiah Raslan & Mohamad that merged with Arthur Andersen & Co.) in 1990, He was subsequently transferred to the audit and business advisory division of Arthur Andersen & Co. from 1990 to 1994. Upon attaining his accountancy professional qualifications, he left the audit practice and joined CWS Washroom Services (M) Sdn Bhd (“CWS”) (a company under CWS International AG) as Finance and Administration Manager in 1994. Following the acquisition of CWS by Zuellig Group in 1995, he was subsequently transferred and appointed as the Regional Finance Controller of Gold Coin Feedmills (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (a company under the Zuellig Group).
In 1996, he joined Engtex Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of Engtex) as the Group Financial Controller and was also appointed as the Personal Assistant (“PA”) to the Group Managing Director (“GMD”) and the Joint-Company Secretary of Engtex between May 2001 and May 2006. Together with the founder, he was instrumental in the initial public offering (IPO) of Engtex in the Main Market of the Malaysian Bourse in 2002.
He left Engtex in 2006 and joined TH Group Berhad, a listed plantation group of companies, as the PA to the GMD from 2006 to 2010. He was also appointed as the Acting Chief Operating Officer of Nilai Medical Centre (a hospital owned by TH Group Berhad). He left TH Group after completing the privatization of the Group under a Selective Capital Repayment (SCR) exercise in 2010. He was appointed as General Manager (Strategic Planning and Operations) of TSH Resources Berhad from October 2010 to October 2012, with exposure to plantation and natural resources in Indonesia and Lao PDR and the clean development mechanism (CDM) for its Malaysian oil palm plantation operations.
In October 2012, he left the corporate sector and joined Monash University Malaysia (“Monash”) to pursue his career in academia as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Finance in the School of Business. In Monash, he held various positions, which include the Deputy Director of Research of the School of Business, Monash from January 2013 to January 2014, the Deputy Director of the Master of Business Administration(MBA) Programme from July 2016 to February 2018, and the Deputy Director – Development and External Engagement of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Hub from October 2017 to July 2019.
Whilst with Monash, he also took on the role of the Head of Research of the Socio-Economic Research Centre, operating under SERC Sdn Bhd, an independent think tank initiated by the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) on a retainer basis, under a paid outside work arrangement with Monash, from January 2014 to February 2016.
In January 2022, he retired early at 55 from Monash. He re-joined Engtex as the Chief Operating Officer of Engtex on a contract basis, two months after his retirement from academia.
